Lotty Learns Privacy Policy

Your privacy, and your child's privacy, matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the specific steps we take to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), since our service is used by children.

This policy applies to our website, https://lottylearns.com, and the Phonics Factory membership service.

Our Commitment to Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Lotty Learns is a service intended for children to use, purchased and administered by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 that identifies them individually, except where a parent or guardian voluntarily submits their child's work through our optional content submission features, described below, with signed consent. The general technical and analytics data described below is used only for internal purposes, such as understanding overall site usage and keeping the service secure, and is never used to build advertising profiles or to contact a child directly.

  • All account registration, checkout, and billing information is entered by the parent or guardian, not the child.

  • We do not collect names, emails, photos, voice recordings, or any other personal identifiers from children using the interactive tools.

  • We do not track what a child does within the interactive tools themselves, such as which words, letters, or answers they select.

  • We do not use behavioral tracking, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics tools that build advertising profiles from a child's activity.

  • Any account-level usage or analytics data we collect reflects general site and page usage, not a child's specific in-tool activity.

  • With signed parental consent, a parent or guardian may voluntarily submit their child's letters, artwork, or stories through our optional Letters to Lotty or Story Contest features. See "Optional Content Submissions" below for details.

  • If we ever learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child in a manner inconsistent with this policy, we will delete it promptly.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us (Parent/Guardian)

When you register for an account or purchase a subscription, we collect:

  • Name (the account holder's name, entered by the parent or guardian at signup)

  • Email address

  • Billing address (if applicable)

  • Payment information (processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe; we do not store your full card details on our own servers)

Signing In with Google

As an alternative to creating an account with an email address, we offer the option to sign in using your Google account. This is optional, not required, and is intended for the parent or guardian creating the account. If you choose this option, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We do not access any other Google account data. If you prefer not to use Google Sign-In, you can create an account with your email address instead.

Optional Content Submissions (Letters to Lotty, Story Contest)

We offer optional features where a parent or guardian may submit their child's letters, artwork, or stories. Before we accept any submission, the parent or guardian must sign and email us our Submission Consent Form. Submissions are made by the parent or guardian, not the child.

A submission may include a child's first name and age, along with their writing or artwork. We collect this information only to review the submission and, if it is selected, to share it as described in the Submission Consent Form. With parental consent, a child's first name and age may be credited publicly, such as in a video description or on our website. We never publish a child's last name or other identifying details. We ask parents not to include photos, videos, or audio recordings of their child, or their child's last name, school, address, or other identifying details.

Submissions and consent forms are received by email at hello@lottylearns.com and stored with our email provider, Google Workspace. If a submission is selected, it may be published on our website, in our members-only area, on our YouTube channel, and on our social media accounts, including being read aloud by Lotty in our videos. We do not sell submissions or share them with advertisers.

Submissions we do not select are deleted within 90 days of receipt. Submissions we share are kept only while they are displayed, and are deleted within 30 days after we stop displaying them. Signed consent forms may be kept as a record of consent while a submission is in use and for up to 2 years afterward.

A parent or guardian may ask at any time to review their child's submission, to have us stop using it, or to have it deleted, by emailing hello@lottylearns.com. Within 30 days, we will delete the original submission and the child's details from our records and remove the child's name and age wherever it has been published. Content that does not name the child, such as a video in which Lotty reads the story or letter, may remain published. We cannot recall copies others may have already shared or downloaded.

Log Data

Like most websites, our hosting platform (Squarespace) and analytics tools automatically record standard technical data when a page is visited, including IP address, the page visited, and the date and time. This applies to all pages, including the interactive learning tools. This data reflects that a page was visited, not what was done on the page.

Automatically Collected Information

We use MemberSpace to manage memberships. For each customer account, MemberSpace records which pages of the site were accessed, along with the date, time, and approximate city/state. This data is tied to the parent/account holder, not to a child's individual activity within the learning tools.

We use Squarespace's built-in analytics and Google Analytics to understand general, aggregate usage of our site. Cookies from these tools are only set if you accept Performance and Analytics cookies through our cookie banner. We have Google Signals turned off, meaning our Analytics data is not linked to or used for personalized advertising through Google's ad products.

What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect information directly from children. A child's first name and age are provided only by a parent or guardian, through our Submission Consent Form, as described under "Optional Content Submissions." We do not ask for a child's last name, birthdate, photos, or voice/video recordings.

  • We do not use session recording or heatmap tools anywhere on the site.

  • We do not use advertising trackers or behavioral ad targeting anywhere on our site.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide and maintain your account and subscription

  • Process payments (via Stripe)

  • Communicate with you about your account, billing, or service updates

  • Respond to customer service inquiries

  • Review and share content submissions, as described above

  • Understand general, aggregate usage of the site to improve our service

  • Comply with legal obligations

Third Parties We Use

  • Stripe: payment processing

  • MemberSpace: membership and account management, page-level usage tracking

  • Squarespace: website hosting, platform, and built-in analytics

  • Google Analytics: general, aggregate site usage analytics (Google Signals disabled)

  • Google: optional Google Sign-In for parents who choose it

  • Google Workspace: email, including receiving content submissions and consent forms

We do not sell personal information. We do not share information with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

Data Security

We take reasonable, commercially acceptable steps to protect the information we collect. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account password secure.

How Long We Keep Information

We do not have an automated process for deleting account information after cancellation. If you cancel your subscription, your account and usage history may remain in our systems (including MemberSpace and Stripe) indefinitely, in the same way as any active account.

If you contact us and specifically request it, we can remove your account from MemberSpace. Billing and transaction records are retained by Stripe as part of their own systems and retention practices, including requirements Stripe has under financial recordkeeping and anti-fraud laws. We do not have the ability to fully remove historical payment records from Stripe on your behalf. If you would like to make a request directly to Stripe regarding your payment data, you can contact Stripe directly.

Children's content submissions follow the separate retention timeline described under "Optional Content Submissions."

Your Rights

You may contact us at any time to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you

  • Correct inaccurate information

  • Request that your account be removed from MemberSpace

  • Review, stop the use of, or delete your child's content submission

  • Opt out of marketing communications

Please note that removing your account from MemberSpace does not delete historical billing or transaction records held by Stripe. See "How Long We Keep Information" above for more detail.

If you live in a state with an applicable consumer privacy law, you may have additional rights, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect. To exercise any of these rights, or to ask about deletion of your information, contact us using the details below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy here and update the "last updated" date above.
